I like to cook. My very kind husband likes to eat what I cook, and almost always gives glowing reviews to whatever I make. I think he just wants me to keep feeding him, which I will very happily do. I hold no grand illusions about my abilities in the kitchen (I leave that to the amazing people who write the cooking blogs I follow), but I do think that my approach to cooking – using what I have on hand, loosely following recipes and flavor profiles that I know work – has its place. When I write about those types of recipes, I will give you the original recipe and then explain the modifications that I made, which are usually the result of the contents of my refrigerator and cabinets and not due to any deliberate plans to make improvements or changes. I will also be honest about the results, I promise.
For Christmas this year, I finally got a KitchenAid Stand Mixer. This was the push that I needed to start challenging myself a little more in the baking arena, which usually is not very forgiving to my style of cooking. I am hoping that some of the Fabulous Things in my future are of the variety that start with creaming together butter and sugar, and I will report the specifics of those adventures as well.
My plan is to post recipes associated with daily posts seperately, categorized as “Recipes” and linked to in the original post. We’ll see how that works out.
